WHERE LUCK HAS BEEN FOUND - By Orison Swett Marden

In thrift and foresight. In thorough preparation for one's life work. In mental alertness. In always being ready to lend a helping hand wherever and whenever needed. In being tactful and a good mixer. In holding the efficiency ideal of oneself and one's capabilities. In downright, constant hard work. In being ready for the opportunity when it came. In courtesy, kindness, and consideration toward everybody. In helping oneself instead of looking to others for boosts, capital, or favors of any sort. In doing one's work a little better than others did theirs. In not being satisfied with anything but one's best, never accepting one's second best or a botched job. In always carrying some reading matter in one's pocket, so that spare time could be utilized while waiting for trains, or for those who were tardy in appointments, by reading for self-improvement. In being cheerful, no matter how dark the outlook. In trying to make good in ev...

WHAT AM I? By Orison Swett Marden

I AM____? I am the vital principle of life—the greatest of all success and happiness assets. I am that which gives the plus quality to human beings. I put pep, ginger, vim, into human effort. I am the source of physical and mental power. I give the body vigor and buoyancy, the brain vital energy and originality. I am your best friend—the friend of the high and lowly, the rich and the poor alike—but, be he king or beggar, who violates my laws must pay the penalty. I am often sought in vain by the man who rides in his limousine, but am generally found in the company of the man who walks to his work and takes plenty of exercise. I am the great multiplier of ability, the buttress of initiative, of courage, of self-confidence, the backbone of enthusiasm, without which nothing worthwhile was ever accomplished. I am the greatest constructive power in the life of man. Without me his faith weakens, his ambition sags, his ardor oozes out, his courage faints, his self-confi...

WHAT AM I? By Orison Swett Marden

I AM____? I am the great paralyzer of ability, the murderer of aspiration and ambition, the destroyer of energy, the killer of opportunity. I am the cause of more suffering, more human misery and loss, more tragedies and wretchedness than any other one thing. I have cursed more human beings, arrested the development of more fine ability, strangled more genius and stifled more talent than anything else in the world. I have shortened vast multitudes of lives and sent more people to the insane asylum, to crime and suicide than men dream of. I cause chemical changes in the brain which cripple efficiency and ruin careers. I deprive human beings of more things that are good for them, things that fit their nature, and that they were intended to enjoy, than any other one agent. I cause men and women to wear poor, shabby clothes, to look dejected and forlorn, when it is the right of every human being to look up, to be well-dressed, attractive, and happy. I shut out the su...

I AM—? I am your best friend in time of need. I can do for you what those who love you most are powerless to do without my aid. I am the oil that smooths the troubled waters of life. I straighten out difficulties and remove obstacles that will yield to nothing else. I am a supporter of faith, a spur to ambition, a tonic to aspiration, an invaluable aid to people who are struggling to make their dreams come true. I give a man a fine sense of independence, a feeling of security in regard to the future, which increases his strength and ability and enables him to work with more vigor and spontaneity. I am a stepping-stone to better things; a hope builder; an enemy of discouragement, because I take away one of the greatest causes of worry, anxiety, and fear. I increase self-respect and self-confidence, and give a feeling of comfort and assurance that nothing else can give. I impart a consciousness of power that makes multitudes, who otherwise would cringe and crawl,...
